How to Fix Bloggers "Alternate Page with Proper Canonical Tag" Error [Latest Method 2023] | Google Search Console Issue

If you're encountering an issue in Google Search Console where an alternate page is being reported along with a proper canonical tag, there are a few steps you can take to address this problem in Blogger:

1. Log in to your Google Search Console account:

Go to https://search.google.com/search-console/ and sign in with your Google account.

2. Make sure you have added and verified your Blogger website in Google Search Console.

3. Select your website property: If you have multiple websites listed in Google Search Console, choose the appropriate property that corresponds to your Blogger website.

4. Navigate to the "Indexing" and then "Pages" report: This report provides an overview of how Google is indexing your website's pages and any issues encountered.

Then, go to Non-Indexed section, it will show you number pages not indexed and number of reasons on the right side.

In this case above, 3 are not indexed and 1 error is found.

Then, click on Alternate page with proper canonical tag reason. It shows the reason and the number of pages affected.

On clicking there, it will show the below screen with a list page URLs that are causing issues.

Now, you can see that the page URL is ending with m-1, which means it is a mobile version, which is causing issue with a same page without m=1, which is for desktop/laptop version.

Technically, the search engine identifies it as a duplicate page, and hence does not index it.

Now, we have to tell the search bot, that this is page is same as the desktop version by using the rel=canonical tag.

Wondering how?

Here is a simple method of doing it.

Simply go to your blogger website, and then on the left-side bar, click on 'Theme'.

 Then, click on Customize button.

Then, from the drop down options, click on Edit HTML.

The following page will appear showing you all the HTML code.

Worry not!

On the top, you can locate and go to the <Head> section as shown below. Then, enter a space.

PASTE the below code.

<link rel="canonical" href="https://www.marathiyoumitra.blogspot.com" />

Just replace the above HREF link with "address with your blogger url".

It should look like this as shown below.
[Do not forget to change this URL with your blogger URL.]

Click SAVE. And, you're done! So simple.

Now go back to Search Console, and resubmit for indexing/validation, i.e., tell the search engine that you have fixed the issues.

Validation will begin and then it will take around 7days to fix the issue, (if everything works well).

Keep checking Search Console for updates on validations.

Hopefully, they should be resolved now.

Hope you liked this lesson. Please share and bookmark for your future use.
